Dr Konrad Büssow
Research Group Leader

Konrad Büssow studied Biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin and completed his PhD in Biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin under the supervision of Professor H. Lehrach, graduating in 1998. He is an experienced biochemist specializing in protein chemistry, biotechnological protein production, and protein crystallography.

Currently he is a researcher in the Department “Structure and Function of Proteins”, headed by Prof. Dr. Wulf Blankenfeldt. He is also head of the technology platform “Recombinant Protein Expression”.

Konrad Büssow has been working since 2007 as a Researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig, Germany. During this period, he has made significant contributions to multiple research projects. He developed a novel system for establishing producer cell lines that incorporates a fluorescent protein marker, cell sorting, and site-specific recombination techniques. His work has also focused on producing glycosylated proteins through cell culture for biophysical studies and X-ray crystallography. Among his achievements, he determined the first structure of a lysosome associated membrane protein (LAMP-3). His more recent work has involved structure determination and inhibitor development for cis-aconitate decarboxylase (ACOD1).
