The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), DINF working group, is looking for a technical assistant.

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, is a member of the Helmholtz Association and conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to combat infectious diseases more quickly and effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research focuses on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system, and new effective drugs and vaccines.

Our research group “Dynamics of Respiratory Infections” (DINF) (headed by Prof. H. Slevogt) at the HZI in Braunschweig focuses on the interaction between lung microbes and the host. We pursue a combined approach using clinical and molecular biological methods. We are closely affiliated with the Department of Pneumology and Infectiology at MHH and are part of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), which provides us with excellent opportunities for translational research. Our team currently consists of nine scientists who apply a wide range of methods, including cell culture, molecular biology, infection biology, and bioinformatics.

Tasks
  • Performing microbiological tests (bacteria and fungi)
  • Establishing special synthetic media
  • Preparing samples for metagenome analyses (NGS library creation)
  • Analyzing resistance and cross-resistance developments in fungi and bacteria
  • Contributing to methodological developments and introducing new methods, e.g., molecular biological and microbiological procedures
  • Contributing to evaluation strategies, e.g., creating Excel tables, PRISM analyses
Prerequisites
  • Completed training as a biological-technical assistant (BTA) or comparable qualification
  • Experience in microbiology and infection biology (especially in molecular biological methods such as sequencing techniques (NGS) and qPCR)
