Changlin (Charlie) Zhao completed his studies in Mycology to receive his doctorate degree at the Beijing Forestry University at the group of Prof. Yucheng Dai on taxonomy and phylogeny of wood rotting medical fungal genera in China in 2009-2016, and further joint Ph. D work went to USA for one-year research of the evolution of fungi in Harvard University under the supervision of Prof. Donald Pfister in 2014-2015. In 2016, he received a full position as assistant professor in the field of mycology in Southwest Forestry University. In 2021, he was elected as a senior visiting scholar for one-year in Biology at Tsinghua University in China. In 2021, he was appointed Professor for Mycology at the Southwest Forestry University. In 2025, he received the Chinese Scholarship Council project as visiting scientist at HZI for one-year research in the group of Prof. Dr. Marc Stadler. He was honored with one of the world’s top 2% scientists in 2025, according to rankings by Stanford University. Charlie will work on the molecular systematics and phyloinformatics of wood rotting medical fungi.
