Knowledge, Practice, and Networking in Infection and Immunology

The LISA Summer Academy is a three-week training programme for students of life sciences. During LISA, students from all over the world learn about the fundamentals of infectious diseases and immunology as well as current topics in research. As part of the course programme, scientists from TWINCORE, MHH, HZI and Fraunhofer ITEM teach them the latest knowledge in infectious diseases and immunology as well as experimental techniques.

During the first week, lectures on current topics in infectious diseases and immunology are held by scientists from MHH, HZI, Fraunhofer ITEM and TWINCORE, as well as renowned international guest speakers. In the second and third weeks, students apply their newly acquired knowledge in laboratory rotations – and have the opportunity to establish contacts with various research groups during this time.

Workshop topics

  • Pathogen sensing, mouse models
  • Induction of pathogen-specific immunity
  • Infection of organs
  • Genetic and environmental impact on infection
  • scRNAseq workshop
  • Intervention strategies

Who can apply?

The workshop will provide top-level training for young students of biosciences & medicine (Bachelor / Master degree) who plan to pursue a PhD in immunology. Includes one week of lectures and up to two weeks of hands-on training (lab rotation).

Participation is limited to 40 young researchers.

Travel grants are available for all international students.
