In memory of the chemist Prof. Hans Herloff Inhoffen, who died in 1992, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Technical University (TU) of Braunschweig have regularly organized the Inhoffen Lecture since 1994, at which the Inhoffen Medal, endowed with 8,000 euros, is awarded. The Inhoffen Medal is one of the most prestigious German prizes in the field of natural product chemistry. It is awarded by the Friends of the HZI, which also finances the prize money.
