The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, is a member of the Helmholtz Association and conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop innovative methods and strategies to combat infectious diseases more quickly and effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research focuses on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system, and new effective drugs and vaccines.
With a wide range of services and projects, the Data Center department, headed by Mr. Rafael Ignaczack, supports both science and administration, thus making a fundamental contribution to the success of the HZI's infection research. In a complex IT environment across multiple locations, 22 employees and six trainees face daily challenges, which they master with competence and team spirit in a friendly environment.
Tasks
- Administration and operation of a highly available and complex email infrastructure for all HZI locations based on Microsoft Exchange 2019, FortiMail, hardware load balancers, and Artec EMA (Enterprise Mail Archive)
- Support for all local mail systems and servers
- Ensuring high availability (clusters, load balancing, redundancy)
- Understanding, modifying, and creating PowerShell scripts
- Management of a uniform email signature
- Creation of technical concepts and documentation for the relevant systems
- End-user support for this topic area in 1st and 2nd level support
- Planning and implementation of projects in email service
- You communicate with manufacturing companies, service providers, and partners and coordinate them with each other
- You coordinate closely with your colleagues (including Team Backup, Team Active Directory, Team Network, Team Client Management)
- You coordinate IT security issues and coordinate them with those responsible in Braunschweig
Prerequisites
- Successfully completed relevant university degree in computer science, business informatics, IT management, or comparable training with equivalent skills and experience
- Extensive experience in the administration of Microsoft Exchange
- Extensive experience in the administration of email gateways (e.g., FortiMail)
- Extensive experience in the administration of hardware load balancers
- Knowledge of common mail protocols: SMTP, SMTPS, MAPI over HTTPS, S/MIME, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, EAS, EWS, DKIM, SPF, DMARC, ARC, HTTPS
- Experience in the administration of spam and virus filters
- Basic knowledge of DNS and LDAP
- Knowledge of backup and restore processes
- Experience in log analysis, queue monitoring, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Professional experience in second-level support
- Use and administration of Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to work independently is required
- Extensive experience in professional customer support
- Good written and spoken German and English
- Strong communication skills – you can convey technical issues in a way that is understandable and appropriate for the audience
- Willingness to learn and curiosity – you stay on top of your field, are interested in new developments, and continuously further your education
- Sense of responsibility – you take responsibility for your tasks and proceed with caution, especially when it comes to security-related issues
Advantages for this position (but not a must):
- Certificates for further training in the administration of Windows Exchange Server 2019
- Initial experience in the administration of secure mail gateways for setting up automated end-to-end email encryption
- Initial experience in the administration of mail archiving systems (e.g., Artec Enterprise Mail Archive)
- Experience in Microsoft Active Directory is an advantage
- Experience in Microsoft 365
- Experience in log analysis with FortiAnalyzer
- Experience in setting up multi-factor authentication for webmail
- Experience in implementing IT baseline protection or ISO 27001
