The Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) in Greifswald is looking for a Doctoral student to participate in the CiFly citizen science project.

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH (HZI) is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the largest scientific organisation in Germany. At the HZI, scientists focus on developing strategies to better combat infectious diseases. Their goal is to develop new methods for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases by studying both bacterial and viral pathogens and their interactions with the immune system, while also researching new substances with potential therapeutic effects.

In the CiFly project, students work together with researchers on a monitoring system for recording biodiversity and antimicrobial resistance using environmental DNA (eDNA) from flies, water, and leaf swabs. Students collect samples, analyze them together with scientists, and present their results—creating a lively exchange between science and society.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the “T!Raum – TransferRäume für die Zukunft von Regionen” (Transfer Spaces for the Future of Regions) program.
