The Center for Functional Proteomics (CFTP) is seeking a Research Associate to start as soon as possible.

The Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, is a member of the Helmholtz Association and conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to combat infectious diseases more quickly and effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research focuses on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system, and new effective drugs and vaccines.

The Core Facility for Translational Proteomics (CFTP) supports scientists in deciphering protein-based mechanisms of infection and immunity. It offers expertise, state-of-the-art technologies, and analytical tools to (i) identify proteins involved in host-pathogen interactions, (ii) discover biomarkers for infections and immune responses, and (iii) characterize target structures for therapeutic development. We offer protein and proteome analyses as a complete service and in collaborative projects, combining many years of expertise in protein biochemistry, mass spectrometry (MS), and biostatistics.

Tasks
  • Joint responsibility for the content of translational protein and proteome research projects as part of scientific services for internal and external scientists using mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
  • Development of proteomic strategies for the preparation and analysis of primary samples from infection research
  • Method development in the field of translational proteomics and proteoform analysis; detection of complex post-translational modifications (glycosylations, cross-linking products)
  • Preparation of reports for the publication of research results
Prerequisites
  • Completed university degree or master's degree and doctorate in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a comparable field
  • Extensive experience in proteomics (LC-MS) and handling primary samples
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the analysis of post-translational protein modifications (PTMs), in particular protein glycosylation
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of infection research
  • Very good IT skills for operating large LC-MS devices
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics
  • Experience in supervising scientific staff
  • Very good written and spoken English, as well as good German skills
Working hours

39 hours per week

We offer you:

  • An attractive and varied job in a future-oriented research institute with an international environment at the Science Campus South in Braunschweig
  • A state-of-the-art infrastructure and the latest technologies
  • Flexible working hours
  • A corporate culture of appreciation and promotion of equal opportunities
  • Extensive training and continuing education opportunities to develop professional knowledge and personal skills
  • A family office to support family and career as well as childcare offers
  • Interesting additional public service benefits
  • Option of an additional employer subsidy for the job ticket
