Prof. Dr. Jan G. Hengstler: „Possibilities and limitations of two photon-microscopy for analysis of living tissues“
The presentation will focus on possibilities and limitations of functional tissue imaging, reconstruction and quantification, particularly of liver tissue. Two-photon microscopy allows imaging of liver tissue with subcellular resolution. Uptake of compounds and bile canalicular excretion can be imaged and quantified. Moreover, interactions of hepatocytes with immune cells can be visualized in time-lapse videos. This technique can be supported by conventional confocal microscopy with tissue reconstruction and quantification; relatively small alterations in tissue microarchitecture can be quantified. Such data help to understand how individual cells in a tissue coordinately behave to establish a functional architecture.
