”Innovative animal models in infection research and immunology“

TWINCORE Symposium

Infection research, as pursued at TWINCORE, aims at unraveling pathogenesis of human infectious diseases and at finding new ways of diagnosis and treatment. Although in some cases studies in humans and direct examination of human specimen is possible, frequently analysis of animal models is essential to dissect basic principles of pathogenesis before these are ultimately verified in humans. In this symposium advanced animal models in the field of infection research and immunology will be highlighted. The challenge is, and in future will be, to develop animal models that provide mechanistic insights that are relevant for conditions in humans. Such predictive animal models will be instrumental to develop new diagnostics, therapeutics and biomarkers.
