Mouse Pathology

Histology is the science of tissues and pathology. In a sense, it is also the science of diseases and their pathogenesis. The major concern of histologists working in our service unit is helping other HZI researchers make this connection and work out the details of the relationship between histological changes at the tissue level and the infectious diseases they are studying.

Dr Marina Greweling-Pils

Mouse pathology can give us an overview – offer a first glimpse, if you will – of the relationship between the infection and the immune response.

Dr Marina Greweling-Pils

Marina Greweling-Pils studied veterinary medicine at the Hanover Veterinary School and the École Nationale Veterinaire de Lyon (France). After her graduation in 2004, she came to the Helmholtz Centre for her PhD thesis. Her research at the HZI focused on colitis and infections. She returned to the HZI as deputy head of the animal facility in 2009 and since 2011, she is head of the mouse pathology platform.
