Epidemiological and statistical methods

The choice of the right method is essential in epidemiology. Which sample size is necessary to verify an association between a risk factor and a disease, taking potential statistic variations into account? To which degree do other risk factors for the examined disease distort the outcome of a study? In order to get meaningful results, these questions must be evaluated for every new scenario.

Curriculum Vitae

André Karch is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Epidemiology. After attending medical school in Würzburg, Trondheim and Rochester he received his MD in 2010 from Julius Maximilians University and was board certified in the same year.  He then graduated with an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2011 and received a medical doctorate (Dr. med.) for a thesis on molecular antibiotic resistance mechanisms in Neisseria lactamica from Julius Maximilians University in 2012. From 2011 to 2013 he worked as a physician at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Göttingen, and was a research fellow at the National Reference Center for Prion diseases in Göttingen. His research interests are the role of apathogenic microbiota for human health and the improvement of diagnostic processes in both infectious and neurodegenerative diseases.  André Karchs work has a strong focus on epidemiological and statistical methods. He currently holds a DZIF MD/PhD fellowship.
