Die epidemiologischen Studien stellen einen immer vor die Frage, ob der beobachtete Zusammenhang wahr ist. Hier ist eine sorgfältige Studienplanung und Auswertung der Daten unter Berücksichtigung anderer möglichen Hypothesen von besonderer Bedeutung.
Rafael Mikolajczyk studied medicine at the Free University and the Humboldt University in Berlin and completed his third State Examination in 1999. He proceeded to finish his medical doctorate and spent three years in clinical work in the department of Gynaecology and Birthing at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berlin and later at the University Women’s Clinic in Magdeburg. He moved to the Faculty for Health Sciences at the University of Bielefeld and acquired a post-graduate degree in Master of Science in Epidemiology in 2002. He subsequently worked as Scientific Assistant (C1) at the University of Bielefeld. He spent a year in a post-doc programme at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, USA. In 2010, he attained the habilitation from the University of Bielefeld. He subsequently worked at the BIPS Institute for Epidemiology and Preventive Research in Bremen as of head of the Epidemiology in Patient Collectives group in the department of clinical epidemiology.
In August 2012 Rafael Mikolajczyk assumed the position of head of the working group Epidemiological and Statistical Methods, in the department of Epidemiology at HZI, Braunschweig.
