Use of web-based tools to collect data on infectious diseases in population-based epidemiological studies
Many infectious diseases have an acute nature, instruments previously used for data collection (e.g. daily diaries) turned out to be costly and time-consuming, which resulted in poor acceptance among participants. We develop and test web-based tools (e.g. email, app) to collect real-time information on infectious diseases. Currently, we are administering web-based questionnaires over a period of three months in the pretest phase of the National Cohort. Participants receive an email every week with the link directing to the online questionnaire. We are collecting information on acute respiratory infections, gastrointestinal infections and conjunctivitis. Preliminary results show that the participants’ acceptance and compliance to the web-based tool is high.
