TP10: Serotype and host specific colonisation of enteropathogenic Yersinia and its persistence in the host and in food
Host-specific colonisation mechnisms of enteropathogenic Yersinia isolates from humans, animals and food will be analyzed. We will study
a) the expression and environmentally-controlled regulation of Yersinia colonisation factors and metabolic pathways of Yersinia isolates;
b) the influence of defined nutrients available in the host on the virulence gene expression and the biological fitness.
This will help us to draw conclusions regarding the general host-specific colonisation mechanisms and give information about important metabolic processes during the infection or persistence in food. New therapies, diagnostics and different feeding strategies can be designed to eliminate or reduce the number of pathogens in the animal.
