NGFN Logo englThe National Genome Research Network (NGFN) is a large-scale project whereby scientific groups have been successfully linked. The primary aim is to clarify what role our genes play in the development of specific diseases.

With the completion of the mouse genome, a major challenge is the systematic determination of gene function in mammals. In the ENU mouse mutagenesis screen at the Helmholtz Zentrum München (German Research Centre for Environmental Health, HMGU) mutations in singular genes and their effects on the animal organism are investigated. For a systematic, non invasive, phenotypic screening of the mutant mouse lines, the “German Mouse Clinic" (GMC) was founded January 2002. Specialists from various fields of mouse phenotyping and from different institutions in Germany work side by side at one place. The performed screens are dedicated to the areas of allergy, behaviour, bone and cartilage development, clinical chemistry, eye development and vision, energy metabolism, immunology, lung function, neurology, nociception, molecular phenotyping, steroid metabolism, and pathology.

Additional screens for host-pathogen interaction are performed at the “Infection Challenge Platform” (ICP)at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research.

Subproject 17:  "Host-Pathogen Interaction Screen"

Prof. Dr. Klaus Schughart, Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research

Objectives

  • Perform secondary immuno-phenotyping with Influenza Virus A and Streptococcus pyogenes on selected mouse mutant lines that have been identified to be abnormal for immunological parameters in the GMC 1° screen.
  • Perform immuno-phenotyping on selected mouse mutant lines from partners in the NGFN.
