HiGHmed

Heidelberg – Göttingen – Hannover - Medical Informatics

HiGHmed is a large German research consortium funded with around €30 Mio by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The consortium aims to develop a novel IT-Infrastructure to reduce the translation time between discovered research results and their implementation into clinical care.

HiGHmed has three large Use Cases that apply practical examples to this aim. The HZI contributes in the Use Case – Infection Control where an automated detection system (Smart Infection Control System, SmICS) regarding pathogens, clusters and outbreaks, facilitating prevention and containment of nosocomial transmissions will be developed and tested. Basic and advanced analytical algorithms allowing for cross-institutional analysis combined with smart visualization methods will reveal yet unknown characteristics of clusters and outbreaks, to continuously enrich the knowledge base in the context of infection control.

Together with the Robert-Koch Institute (RKI), the Peter L. Reichertz Institute of Medical Informatics (PLRI) and private partners, the HZI focuses on the development, deployment and evaluation of a dynamic algorithm to detect outbreaks and cluster of infectious diseases.
