HIPS-Talk: “Guiding cell-materials interactions with light“
Cells in vivo are exposed to spatially encoded signals that dynamically change over a wide range of concentration, time- and length scales. In vitro modelling of this scenario requires engineered (re)programmable cellular microenvironments with biologically relevant physical and chemical characteristics that can be modulated on-demand. Light triggers in combination with precisely designed polymer architectures open new possibilities in this field. These tools enable progress in our understand of how cells receive information from their microenvironment and how these signals switch on/off proliferation and specialization programs to promote tissue growth, destruction or dysfunction.

Prof. Aránzazu del Campo

Aránzazu del Campo received her PhD in Chemistry in 2000 from the Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros in Madrid (Spain). After post-doctoral stays at Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz and the Universitá degli Studi di Urbino (Italy), she established her research group in 2004 at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research (Stuttgart) in the field of bioadhesion. In 2009 she received the Minerva Grant from the Max Planck Society and moved back to the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research to lead the group ‘‘Dynamic Biointerfaces". In 2015 she was appointed Scientific Director of the INM - Leibniz Institute of New Materials in Saarbrücken and Professor for Materials Chemistry at the Saarland University. Her research interest are bioinspired materials and responsive chemistries for the control of cell-materials interactions.
