Double Chair for the Centre for Individualised Infection Medicine

Yang Li and Markus Cornberg connect clinic, research and data science

The Centre for Individualised Infection Medicine (CiiM) is continuing to gain structure and establishment is progressing rapidly. Since summer 2019, this has been accompanied by the new dual leadership of CiiM directors Yang Li and Markus Cornberg.

In the future, the needed strengthening of the link between the clinic and research as well as data science will be provided by the dual leadership of the CiiM. Yang Li will build on her expertise in systems genetics and multi-omics integration to develop optimal data science structures in the CiiM, while Markus Cornberg will ensure the integration of the clinic and clinical expertise.

Yang Li has headed the Department “Bioinformatics in Individualized Infection Medicine” at the CiiM, a joint venture of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Hannover Medical School (MHH), since 2019. In parallel, she was appointed Director of the CiiM. As future CiiM Group, her department is currently housed at TWINCORE in Hannover. Her research focuses on the application and development of computational and statistical approaches to study the effect of genetic factors on a variety of molecular levels (such as genetics, metabolomics), immunological parameters and functions, and infectious and immune-related diseases.

Markus Cornberg is university professor for infectiology with focus on hepatology and senior physician at the Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at MHH. His clinical focus is the treatment of patients with infectious liver diseases. In addition to his appointment as Director of the CiiM, he was also appointed Clinical Director of the HZI in 2019.
