Salon der Wissenschaft with HZI participation

On 10 May 2023, the Salon der Wissenschaft (science salon) will take place for the second time at the TRAFO Hub Braunschweig. The HZI will participate in the citizens' dialogue with two scientists.

At the free public event, interested citizens can talk directly with scientists from different research fields. The experts come, for example, from the areas of quantum technology, aviation of the future, metrology, digitalisation, education, agriculture, plant research and sustainability. The research and development of drugs against diseases is also a focus and this is where the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research comes into play. This time, the HZI is participating in the Salon of Science with two scientists.

One of them is Dr Miriam Große, head of the Biotechnikum from the Department "Microbial Drugs" (MWIS). With her team, she develops stable and scalable bioprocesses to supply researchers with sufficient quantities of their newly developed anti-infective drugs. The second HZI researcher is PhD student Janyn Heisig from the Department "Vaccinology and applied Microbiology" (VAC). The department is investigating how different population groups react to vaccinations and what mechanisms are behind this. In this way, the researchers want to understand and improve the effectiveness of vaccines.

Miriam Große is already participating for the second time because she is convinced by the concept: "I liked the open format and the various discussions, which always went in a different direction due to their short duration," she says. "I especially liked the fact that I could not only expand the horizons of my counterpart, but also my own". Janyn Heisig is also already excited and says: "I'm looking forward to a great event, the exchange about cutting-edge research topics and the interesting rounds of talks to create transparency between science and society."

ABOUT SALON DER WISSENSCHAFT

At the Salon der Wissenschaft, participants can engage in intensive discussions with researchers at individual tables in four rounds of 15 minutes each. Those who don't want to take part in a discussion can simply follow a conversation via headphones and gain a lot of new insights that way. The event is organised by the Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig on behalf of ForschungRegion Braunschweig e. V. and the City of Braunschweig.
