The Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), Department Drug Design and Optimisation is looking for a doctoral researcher (f/m/d), biology.

Tasks

The Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) investigates new active substances against infectious diseases. It was founded in August 2009 as a branch of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig together with Saarland University. A new research building was opened on the campus of Saarland University in 2015. Currently, more than 170 employees with international background work at the institute. HIPS is the first publicly funded, non-university research institution in Germany that is explicitly dedicated to pharmaceutical research. The institute cooperates with international and national research institutions and companies.

Your area of responsibility:

In the department "Drug Design and Optimisation", we develop novel active agents against bacterial (e.g. Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and viral pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2). You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists aiming at the biological evaluation of novel and highly potent small organic molecules as inhibitors of antibacterial targets. In this context, various in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments are applied. Your tasks include working on current issues in drug research as well as preparing presentations as a basis for discussion in project meetings.

Prerequisite

Your profile:

You have completed your studies as a pharmacist or biologist (master's degree or diploma). You are highly motivated and interested in topics related to pharmaceutical research. The ability to work in an international team and excellent communication skills in English are also required for this position. Strong knowledge and experience in handling biochemical assays, as well as molecular biology and microbiology know-how (preferably under S2 conditions) are highly desirable. Experience with animal experiments (especially in the mouse model) would be beneficial. The confident handling of standard computer software such as MS Office is a matter of course for you.

Remuneration: alike TVöD E13 (55%)
