HZI Alumni

The Alumni of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI Alumni) in Braunschweig are a social and career network for former employees as well as for friends and sponsors of the HZI and the former German Research centre for Biotechnology (GBF).

23rd Inhoffen Ceremony on 7 November 2017

In memory of the chemist Prof Hans Herloff Inhoffen, who died in 1992, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Technical University (TU) Braunschweig annually organize the Inhoffen lecture and award the Inhoffen Medal since 1994. The prize is endowed with 5,000 Euros. The Inhoffen Medal is the most prestigious German prize within the area of natural compound chemistry.

From 1946 to 1974, Inhoffen taught at the TU Braunschweig and served as its rector from 1948 to 1950. In 1965, he founded the "Institute of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics", the precursor of the "German Research Centre for Biotechnology" and today´s HZI.

The Inhoffen Medal and the prize money are awarded by the Friends of the HZI.

The next Inhoffen Lecture will take place at the HZI (Forum) on 7 November 2017, 3 - 5:30 pm. This year’s awardee is Prof. Dr.Helma Wennemers, ETH Zürich, Laboratory of Organic Chemistry.

Retrospective on the 2nd Alumni Symposium

HZI Alumni and HZI Graduate School organized the 2nd Alumni Symposium on November 10, 2016. Eight former employees of the GBF and the HZI presented their professional focus.
