The Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) - a branch of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig - devotes its research primarily to the discovery and pharmaceutical development of anti-infective therapies. The scientific spectrum varies from innovative optimisation techniques for antibiotic natural products to the development of novel nanomaterial-based anti-infective drug delivery applications. The Junior Research Group “Biogenic nanotherapeutics” (BION) is engineering smart drug carriers for bacterial infections utilising principles established in nature. We offer cutting-edge methodologies in nanoparticle formulation combined with tangible pharmaceutical know-how in the field of targeted drug delivery (www.fuhrmann-lab.de). We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our group for one year to establish an innovative project in the field of therapy and diagnostics of infectious and inflammatory dispositions using nanocarriers and microparticles. We offer an attractive and multidisciplinary position in the field of pharmaceutical research and drug delivery. Our interdisciplinary group and institute will allow cooperation with Pharmacists, Chemists and Physicists in a modern research environment. Writing of grant applications will be supported by and in close cooperation with the group leader.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work independently on a new project that will be designed together. He/she will develop advanced scientific skills of student supervision, grant writing and personal career development.
Employment will be at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig, place of work in Saarbrücken.
We seek a talented and motivated candidate holding a PhD in the field of chemistry, material sciences, biotechnology, or related from a nationally or internationally well-known institution. The successful candidate is well versed in the chemical synthesis of functional linkers for engineering nanoparticle properties. Additional knowledge on biomimetic and bio-inspired carriers including extracellular vesicles is considered desirable. She/he has experience with designing and developing novel nanoparticle-based formulations, including the preparation, purification (size exclusion chromatography) and characterization of nanoparticles (light scattering, microscopy, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, drug release tests). Moreover, a profound knowledge in cell and/or bacteria culture is desirable.
Independent leadership and proactive attitude towards new projects are an essential requirement for this position. The candidate is expected to write grant applications within the first few weeks in the position. Experience in supervision of students from bachelor to PhD level is a major advantage.
Fluency both in written and oral English communication is inevitable, including skills in writing of scientific publications and ideally successful grant applications. Good literacy of MS Office (Power Point, Excel, Word) and Corel software, and knowledge of software for literature reviews, data processing and NMR evaluation (e.g., Endnote/Citavi, SigmaPlot, TopSpin) is important. Basic knowledge of German is considered advantageous
