The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), is offering positions for 4 Junior Research Group Leaders in the field of infection research (with W1-professorship and tenure options). HZI is Germany’s largest academic institution dedicated to infection research. It is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest scientific organization, ranked among the top global research institutions, and a member of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). HZI is associated with the Technical University Braunschweig and the Hannover Medical School (MHH), one of the top medical schools in the world.
Aufgaben
For the newly established microbial stargazing program, HZI with its institutes for One Health (HIOH) for Pharmaceutical Research (HIPS), and for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI), seeks exceptional individuals who will develop independent and interdisciplinary research programs committed to research excellence, translation, and EDI. Areas of particular interest are, but not limited to, microbiology, phages, virology, immunology, vaccinology, AI and systems biology, drug research, digital epidemiology, personalized infection medicine, RNA-biology, OneHealth, or synthetic viral and bacterial engineering, to address climate change. Hypothesis-driven research as well as the development of breakthrough and applied technologies are welcome to enable interdisciplinary and transformative scientific discoveries in the field of human and microbial diversity, adaptation and resilience in a changing world.
Voraussetzungen
You are a highly qualified junior scientist with an international track record holding a PhD or MD. Candidates with postdoctoral training and early-stage independent research are welcome, but we will also consider outstanding applicants immediately after their PhD/MD.

39 hours per week
We offer you:
Your Junior Research Group will be funded for a period of 5 years. Funding covers the group leader position, a postdoctoral scientist, a PhD student, a technician as well as consumables and start-up lab equipment. The positions come with an option for a 5 year junior professorship at Hannover Medical School (MHH) or Technische Universität Braunschweig (TUB). Based on external review, an extension of the group for 2 to 4 years and a permanent position for the group leader at the HZI will be offered to successful Junior Research Group Leaders.
