NCRNA IAV
Functional analysis of non-coding RNAs for the host defense to influenza A infection
In this project, we will analyze the expression and function of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the context of influenza A virus (IAV) infection. More than 50 lncRNAs have been found (our previous work) in the blood of patients to be differentially expressed between patients with severe versus moderate IAV disease. We will study the expression and function of these lncRNAs after infection of human epithelial and macrophage cells with IAV subtypes H3N2 and H9N2. We expect to gain novel and important knowledge on the function of lncRNAs for the host response to respiratory viral infections, which might represent the basis for the development of novel approaches for therapeutic intervention.
