How do we defend and protect ourselves?
"Inflammation and Immunity" deals with the processes which lead to an immediate defence reaction and how our body builds up a long-lasting protection. Our immune cells communicate with signalling molecules, so-called interferons. They are also important for a successful host defence. What happens when our immune system overreacts - as in case with toxic shock or autoimmune diseases? What is its role in cancer?
