Robert Shields studied biochemistry in Cambridge, did research at Univ. of Sussex, at UCSF in San Franciso and in the biotech industry. He wrote numerous news & views artciles for Nature, was European editor of Cell for 5 years, than editor of Trends in genetics before he switched to PLoS Biology in 2006.
