Friends of the HZI: Concentrated Support for World Class Research
World Class research demands concentrated and focused support. To compete successfully internationally, top flight research depends on adequate financial resources and a supportative development environment.
And of course the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research is no different. The Friends of the HZI make an important contribution to the efforts of the scientists at the HZI to study the mechanisms involved in infectious diseases and develop defenses against them, to pursue further basic research to find practical medical applications and to intensify exchanges of expertise with other medical and industrial research laboratories.
Hans-Herloff-Inhoffen-Medaille
In memory of the chemist Prof. Hans Herloff Inhoffen, who died in 1992, the TU Braunschweig and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (former: German Research Centre for Biotechnology, GBF) annually organize the Inhoffen lecture and award the Inhoffen Prize since 1994. The prize is endowed with 2,500 €. From 1946 to 1974, Inhoffen taught at the Technical University of Braunschweig and served as its rector from 1948 to 1950. In 1965, he founded the "Institute of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics" (IMB), the precursor of the GBF and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research.
